RESIDENTS and visitors might experience some slight disruption on bonfire night as a road in Redditch is temporarily closed for the firework spectacular event.

A small stretch of road directly outside the Battens Drive entrance to Arrow Valley Park will be closed for Redditch Council’s event on Wednesday, November 5.

It will be closed in both directions for a distance of approximately 311metres from its junction with Hopyard Lane to its junction with Padgets Lane between 6pm and 9pm.

A diversion route will be available either end of Battens Drive. From the north end, this will lead on to the Coventry Highway, then along the Alvechurch Highway and Warwick Highway. Similarly, from the south end the diversion route will head towards the Warwick Highway then on to the Alvechurch Highway.

Residents hoping to attend the event will see little disruption elsewhere, with disabled parking close to the event and a park and ride system in place as in previous years.

The park and ride, operated by Diamond, will run from Moons Moat Drive near the event with parking on Merse Road from 5.45pm. A bus will then depart every 15 minutes until the last pick up in time for the fireworks display which departs 7pm. Return trips start at 8.15pm and run every 15 minutes until the last bus at 9.15pm.

Residents are asked not to drop off at Proctors Barn Lane due to congestion on the narrow road.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, council leader, said: "It is hoped that the closure will not cause too many problems as it is only for three hours, at a time when many people are already home from work. Please remind your friends, relatives, colleagues and neighbours who usually travel this way that the road will be closed and so it might take them a little longer to take the diverted traffic route.

"It will all be worth it for the fantastic fireworks event so pop down and enjoy the fun."
