IN the run up to Bonfire Night Redditch MP Karen Lumley has visited Redditch Fire Station to meet with the fire-fighters of Blue Watch to raise awareness of the importance of fire safety.
Since 1606 November 5 has been commemorated, following Guy Fawkes' plot the year before to blow up Parliament and King James I on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament.
To this day, prior to each State Opening of Parliament by the Queen, the Yeomen of the Guard still search the cellars of the Palace of Westminster for gunpowder.
While most people don't try to blow up Parliament they do celebrate with bonfires, fireworks and celebrations.
Mrs Lumley said: "Bonfire Night is a fantastic occasion and one which many of us enjoy. However there are of course always concerns about people staying safe on Bonfire Night.
"The highest number of firework-related injuries happen at family or private parties and around half of the injuries happen to children under the age of 17. The most common injuries are to hands, eyes and faces."
"I hope that my constituents enjoy themselves, and stay safe."
