ADELE'S latest release 25 is the biggest album of the year after becoming the fastest to sell a million copies in UK history.

The Oscar-winning singer’s number one record hit the one million sales mark within 10 days of its release and is the biggest album of 2015, overtaking Ed Sheeran’s x, according to the Official Charts Company.

Racking up sales of more than 800,000 in its debut week, 25 smashed the record previously held by Oasis’s third album, Be Here Now, which took 17 days to hit the one million milestone in 1997.

BBC One will boast “more than 90 per cent” of new programmes in peak time over Christmas, the acting director of television has announced.

Speaking at a BBC TV Christmas Press Launch, Mark Linsey said there will be fewer repeats between 6pm and 10.30pm.

“Firstly, it’s important to reiterate that no one invests as much in original programming over Christmas as the BBC,” he stated.

The seventh instalment in the blockbusting franchise is a new entry in the retail sales-based chart, which also reflects popular trends.

However, Star Wars: The Force Awakens could not make the jump to the number one spot, which is held by the Minions from the Despicable Me movie franchise.

Coronation Street star William Roache has revealed his character Ken Barlow would not hesitate to pursue a romance with Audrey Roberts, if he knew of her true feelings.

Fans of the ITV soap have already seen Audrey, played by Sue Nicholls, confess her soft spot for Ken to Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox), despite him being in a relationship with newcomer Nessa (Sadie Shimmin) – but the show’s stalwart said the widower would “drop everything” for the hairdresser.

William told Radio Times: “If he knew that (how Audrey felt), he would drop everything! He would like to think that she had feelings for him, but he doesn’t know. He knows that she likes him and that they get on, but I don’t think he knows.”
