A REDDITCH couple who meet through a love of cycling are still in tandem after being married for 60 years.

Brian Gough and wife Winifred married on December 3 1955 at Immanual Church - under an arch of bicycle wheels held aloft by friends from Beoley Cycling Club.

Something so unusual that the Redditch Indicator, now the Redditch Advertiser, reported.

The Hunt End couple, who met while cycling in 1953, were also featured in the Advertiser in 2005 celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

The cycling enthusiasts met on their bikes in Birmingham.

Mr Gough, who served in the RAF, lived in West Heath and Mrs Gough, who worked in Birmingham for a clothing manufacturer, lived in Kings Heath but they rode with people who lived in Redditch.

After getting married the couple stayed in Birmingham until 1959 when Mr Gough came out of the RAF.

Speaking about the secret to a happy marriage Mr Gough said: "Our own experience to a happy marriage is a tolerance with one another, a sharing of all the ups and downs, and being able to have common interests."

To celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary the couple will be taking the family, including children Philip and Jannyne, to see Guys and Dolls at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham followed by a meal.

In January the pair will be going on a cruise to the Canary Isles.
