HUNDREDS of bikers are expected to take part in a ride-out in memory of Redditch man Nigel Shakespeare.

Mr Shakespeare, or Shaggy, as he was known to his friends, died following an incident in Sillins Avenue, in Lakeside, in 2013.

He was walking home from the Kings Arms pub with his partner when he was punched and knocked to the ground.

He died from a fractured skull.

A 17-year-old was given a four year sentence for the manslaughter of the 50-year-old and has since been released on licence.

Event organiser Marc Bradshaw said: “The reason for holding this ride is so that the biking community can remember him. What happened to Shaggy was tragic and we want to let people know we have not forgotten.

"He was a great man and it was a life taken too early."

Mr Shakespeare was a former chairman of the 1066 motorcycle club, a Birmingham-based bike club, and was known by members from clubs all over the region.

He was involved with supporting the National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) and took part in many charity events.

A Facebook page posting information about the ride has already got more than 150 people interested in attending.

The ride, on Sunday, February 28, will leave from the new 1066 clubhouse at the Reservoir Pub in Earlswood at 11am.

The ride will then go on a steady run to the Frog at Bidford-On-Avon.

Voluntary donations to charities NABD and Midlands Freewheelers Blood Bikers are being taken on the day.
