ALCESTER Library has reopened after a successful relocation into Globe House.

Contractors have spent the last four months transforming the building into a hub housing many of the town’s assets.

Warwickshire County Councillor and Alcester Town Councillor Mike Gittus said: "This is the culmination of an idea conceived in 2011, and though I am sure there will be teething pains in the first few weeks, I am really excited at the prospects of all the town’s services working in partnership under one roof."

The library is open weekdays (except Tuesday) from 9.30am to 5.30pm. On Saturdays, library staff will be on hand from 10am to 1pm and people can still borrow and return books as well as having computer, photocopying and printing access between 1pm and 4pm.

The new facility joins the Roman Museum and Town Council at the hub.

Recently, Warwickshire County Council agreed to enter a 99-year lease for the Globe House building securing its future.

Laurence Thatcher of Alcester Heritage Trust said: "This is an exciting new era for the Roman Museum.

"Our new close relationship with the library, gives us security and a long term future."

The proceeds from the current library building, once sold, will be used to meet the cost of the transformation.

Globe House will officially launch in April.
