IN an honoured tradition dating back more than 700 years, Alcester Court Leet is set to knock on the doors of local businesses and food stores this weekend for the annual town assizes.
The practice, established in the 13th century, aimed to regulate the price, weight and quality of food sold in towns and villages.
The event will include a procession from St Nicholas' Church gates where the High Bailiff Tim Forman and his officers will visit various businesses testing goods including leather, bread and fish and meat to ensure they are of good quality.
Then successful businesses will be given a certificate and sprig of evergreen for those who struggle with reading.
The procession is on Saturday, May 7 from 11am and everyone is welcome to attend.
