REDDITCH Green Party want to end the housing crisis and ensure natural spaces are protected as they unveil their candidates for next month’s election.

The Green Party are calling for Redditch Borough Council and the government to ‘work harder’ to beat the housing crisis and ensure natural spaces are protected.

In their “Right Homes, Right Place, Right Price Charter” the Greens are proposing steps that they say would protect valuable green space for communities, reduce climate emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and provide genuinely affordable housing.

Local Green Party spokesperson Gabby Hemming said: “We’re delighted to unveil our team of fantastic candidates ready to represent communities across Redditch.

“When you vote Green on Thursday, May 4, you’ll be helping to elect hardworking councillors committed to making our town a fairer, greener community.”

The Greens have put forward a candidate for every ward including David Thain who will be hoping to defend his West ward seat after his defection from the Conservatives last year.

Other candidates include Margot Bish for Abbey, Glen Theobald for Astwood Bank and Feckenham and Lea Room for Batchley and Brockhill.

Gaby Heming is standing for Church Hill, Claire Davies is standing for Crabbs Cross and Steve Sergent is hoping to be elected for Greenlands.

Alistair Waugh is hoping to swipe Headless Cross and Oakenshaw from the Conservatives as is Vicki Lees in Winyates and Kevin White is standing for Matchborough.

David Thain said: “Everyone deserves a place that they can call home. That’s why we want to see changes across the housing sector, to create fairer, greener communities. Many residents are faced with homes that are unaffordable to buy, unaffordable to rent and unaffordable to heat.

“We need our council and the government to work together to deliver quality, affordable housing in the right places where people live and work, with the right supporting infrastructure and local facilities.”
