A DISPLAY to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Redditch’s famous mosaics is set to be unveiled.

On Sunday, June 4 an informative display to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Eduardo Paolozzi Mosaics will be revealed in Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Visitors to the centre, who may be familiar with the iconic artwork in Milward Square, can now view the display and understand more about the mosaics.

Adrian Field, general manager at Kingfisher Shopping Centre, said: “We’re honoured to be home to the Paolozzi Mosaics – a stunning piece of art that amazes guests at Kingfisher to this very day.

“Even if you’ve seen the mosaics many times before, we invite you to use the 40th anniversary to visit the display and take a closer look at the mosaics the next time you are at the centre.

“They are a vibrant piece of modern art that we are incredibly proud to have in Redditch.”

Originally unveiled in April 1983, the mosaics were the brainchild of artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

This hugely influential artist, who helped inspire the Pop Art movement, was briefed by the Redditch Development Corporation to design artwork that commemorated the industrial history of Redditch, especially its place as a centre of needle manufacturing.

The display which is in association with Arts in Redditch, Redditch Borough Council and Midlands4Cities, will remain in the shopping centre for the rest of the year.

Philip Roberts, secretary at arts in Redditch, said: “Arts in Redditch is delighted to have worked with local partners to create this new display, which we hope will increase people’s awareness of Paolozzi, better reflect the history and heritage of the town, and add the context in which these important works of art were created.”
