ROD Brown hailed resilient Stourport Swifts’ stubborn defensive display as they edged out high-flying Coleshill 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Ashley Parsons-Smith’s wonder strike settled a game where Swifts had to absorb a lot of pressure from the Midland Football League Premier’s third-placed team.

Even more impressively, with Jamie Hyde (ankle) and Karl Fellows (groin) injured, the likes of Ben Maund played out of position and Brown only had one player on the bench.

Brown said: “It was a great goal to win the game, Ashley went past two or three players and hit an unstoppable shot.

“We had one or two more chances to win the game but Coleshill are a good side and they really piled the pressure on. But we defended very well and I am delighted for the players.

“I keep telling the lads they are a good team if they all put a shift in.”

Coleshill came back on Saturday’s 6-1 win over Heath Hayes in the league.

John Griffin bagged four goals, while Kevin Spencer and Parsons-Smith also hit the target.

Hyde is set to have recovered from his ankle injury when they go to second-placed Long Eaton United on Saturday (3pm ko), who boast an unbeaten record in the league.
