IPSLEY Academy’s Year 8 team secured local bragging rights as they saw off Woodfield School 4-1 to lift the Redditch United Schools Cup.

Both teams had won their league to make the decider and the game was played in front of a lively crowd.

The eventual winners had started the final at The Valley Stadium brightly as they tested goalkeeper Ryan Smith.

But they broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Reece Homer fired home after a good cross from Kieron Whitehead.

Connor Stanley and Jack Jeffcot added more goals as Ipsley streaked into a 3-0 lead.

But Tyler Chapman got Woodfield back into the game when he slotted home.

Ipsley were not to be denied and Connor Stanley added his second and Ipsley’s fourth after a solo run past three defenders.

Although Woodfield nearly scored again it was Ipsley who finished the game strongly, with two long-range shots smashing against the crossbar and a marvellous save by Smith.

The medals and cup were presented by Redditch United chairman Chris Swan, who praised the manner in which the game had been played, and thanked the spectators for their support.

This was the competition’s, which is open to middle schools, fifth year.
