KINGS Norton claimed a confidence boosting 29-3 away victory over lowly Coventrians last Saturday.

Kings took a much changed squad to Coventry but struck early through Kris Fen’s sixth minute drive. Debutant Leon Rees converted.

A Rees penalty extended the lead before Coventrians got on the scoreboard with a 25th minute penalty from long range.

As the visitors gelled, with veteran Gareth Cooksey in from the second team, Kings passed the ball through six phases of play for an excellent score as Rob McGhee evaded a couple of tackles on the wing before pirouetting over the line for Kings’ second try before the break.

Coventrians opened the second half in a determined fashion but the final quarter saw Kings maintaining their momentum. Sam Back won a good lineout ball and drove powerfully to the line.

Chris Hands then crashed over for Kings’ third try, converted by Rees. The best try of the game came when Jack Barwick, playing at full back, made a superb 50 metre line breaking run before feeding his support. The ball finally reached Alex Stylianou who touched down to gain a bonus point fourth try.

Kings Norton now turn their attention to the quarter-finals of the North Midlands Vase as they travel away to Dudley Wasps on Saturday (2.15pm).
