ALCESTER Nomads were crowned champion of the Swan Studley Skittles League after holders Maudslay slipped up against Swans.
Maudslay’s push for the top spot was immediately stopped when Swan took the first leg by a single pin, a lead they extended over the following three legs.
Engineers took advantage of Maudslay’s defeat to go second and must now await for the former winners’ game against Mixtures to see if they have sealed runners-up.
Engineers, with their six consecutive win, won by a mile against Swingers and had Maurice Wroe making 40.
Team BG, who could have finished fourth, their highest position for very many years, had to settle for joint sixth with Chris and Gerry Show.
They were thwarted by their opponent’s last man Arthur Sears, who notched up 37 pins, to snatch a narrow victory with an 11 stack.
Mixtures made it three wins in a row as they saw off Lodge Farmers, who suffered a seventh consecutive loss.
Despite having only eight players, but they all scored well, lead by Colin Smith (39).
Studley Skittles League: Maudslay 3pts (316 pins) – Swan 8pts (319 pins); Engineers 9pts (335) - Swingers 2pts (292); Team BG 3pts (302) - Chris & Gerry Show 8pts (304); Lodge Farmers 3.5pts (299: 10 players & 265: 8 players) – Mixtures 7.5pts (268: 8 players).
