REDDITCH mountain bike star Beth Crumpton won the under-23s title for the third year in a row at the British Cycling MTB Cross-country Championships with an impressive display at Hadleigh Park.

The 21-year-old, who rides for North West MTB, was in sparkling form with a dominant display as she completed the five lap course in one hour, ten minutes and 12 seconds.

She attacked from the gun and never looked back, working her way through the senior field to sit third place behind Alice Barnes and Annie Last.

“The under-23s started about a minute behind the the elite riders but by the end I was speeding past them and finished just behind the top two,” said the Crabbs Cross flyer.

“It was great to win the under-23 category and finish just behind the two leading elites, it’s a boost for my confidence “I regularly compete with the elite riders and I am know that I am more than capable of matching up against them.”

Now she’s turning her attention to the UCI World Cup round to be held in Val Di Sole in Italy on August 22.

Up against the world’s top cross country riders, Crumpton will be aiming to stand out.

The rider has to raise her own funds as she is no longer on the Great Britain programme and members of the public can support her by visiting www.gofundme.com/bethmtbxc She added: “I need between £500 and £600 to pay for travel, accommodation and food.

“Ideally I would love to earn a place on an international team, because I would have their financial backing behind me.

“At the moment I am looking for a job while I train, so it’s important to put in a strong display and catch the eye in Italy.”
