LIAM MCDONAld believes Danny Dubidat can fill the void left by Jermaine Hylton's departure from Redditch United.

The former Bedworth striker made his long awaited debut in the 0-0 draw at home to Cambridge City on Saturday.

Dubidat, who McDonald has made club captain, joined from Bedworth United where he banged in more than 30 goals last season.

Swindon were fined £1,000 and severely reprimanded by the FA for breaching transfer regulations.

But McDonald is focussing on the players he does have at his disposal rather than those he doesn't with Dubidat at the forefront.

"Danny played his first game for us and looked very good. I'm sure he's capable of getting 20-plus goals this season.

"As soon as he turned up in pre-season he was banging goals in for fun and I think he can replicate what he did at Bedworth for us.

"He's experienced, the oldest player I have at the club and we get on well, it's good to bounce ideas of each other, he's very knowledgeable about the game."

McDonald added: "I think people can get carried away and it's my job as manager to stay grounded. There is the expectation after two good seasons but the three season before that and the two previous we were in relegation battles.

"We were very lucky to have players like Jermaine, but he he now plays in League One and players like that are very hard to replace, and lets be fair, before last season no-one knew who he was.

"It's dead in the water as far as I'm concerned and now I'm concentrating on winning games of football.

"It's slow progress but we have the 4G pitch to look forward to next year and the club is moving in the right direction."

The Reds are still without a win having taken three points from their opening five games and have Dunstable Town on the horizon on Saturday before entertaining Stratford Town in a juicy local derby on Monday.

"I thought we dominated the possession against Cambridge and on another day could have had two or three. We had a lot of possession in their final third and I think that shows we are doing the right things.

"If we can get the three points on Saturday that will set us up for Monday against Stratford as we haven't had many local derbies in the past couple of seasons."

Redditch have also been handed a potentially mouthwatering FA Cup tie with local rivals Bromsgrove in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, if their old rivals can beat Hinckley AFC on Saturday.

"That's one the fans are looking forward to," said McDonald. "Redditch fans don't usually want Bromsgrove to win but this time they are making an exception as it's the one team we would have wanted to draw at this stage of the competition."
