Kings Lynn Town 1, Redditch United 0

Redditch dropped out of the play-off places to compound a frustrating afternoon in East Anglia.

On a day that saw Liam McDonald’s side dominate throughout, they came up against a keeper in inspired form, pulling off a string of outstanding saves who kept the visitors at bay.

And to make matters worse, the home side then snatched victory with one of their few attacks before a late melee resulted in three players seeing red – including United defender Jim Mutton and striker Jazz Luckie.

Kings Lynn keeper Alex Street pulled off the first of his fine saves when he dived full-length to push away Robbie Thompson-Brown’s effort inside the opening 20 minutes.

Ten minutes later a Thompson-Brown cross picked out Luckie in the six-yard box but Street’s stunning point bank save denied the Reds striker.

The visitors continued to press and as half-time approached, Thompson-Brown lost his marker but his finish let him down, steering his header the wrong side of the post.

Kings Lynn had struggled to conjure up anything to test Jose Veiga in the visitors goal apart from an off-target Ryan Fryatt header early on and a Lee Smith volley that flew wide of the target.

And yet it was the home side who netted the game’s only goal when,l 15 minutes from the end , Lee Stevenson unleashed a ferocious 25-yard drive after beating two defenders.

Tempers boiled over just before the end when Mutton and Luckie were sent off for their part in a melee that also saw Town’s match-winner see red.

The defeat saw the Reds drop to sixth place although they do have games in hand on the clubs above them.
