WITH their only defeat of the week coming at home and by a single shot, Alcester Bowling Club enjoyed a successful week.

The A team continued their march towards promotion in Division Six of the S&W Birmingham Over-60s League.

They visited Wootton Hall B and appeared to enjoy the pouring rain with an excellent 34 shot win.

John Slater was outstanding with a 21-3 success with other winning cards coming from David Whittington (21-11), Ken Craddock (21-16), Jean Bannister (21-17) and Ken Harvey (21-18).

The only defeat of the week came in Division Seven as the B team slipped to its first reverse of the season by an agonising single shot as they entertained King George VI.

The one bright spot in this match was Margaret D’Elia’s 21-6 success, although Jean Craddock did add a second point with her 21-19 win.

In the Heart of England League both teams picked up solid wins. In Division Two, the A team visited King George VI A and came away with a very creditable 15 shot win, with five winning cards giving them a 15-3 victory.

In Division Four the B team entertained Tanworth B, gaining an 18 shot success.

Two excellent cards from David Whittington (21-5) and Jean Craddock (21-9) were largely responsible for the win in what was otherwise a fairly close-fought match.

Other winners for the hosts were Trish Barry (21-13), Margaret D’Elia (21-16) and Val McDermott (21-20), giving Alcester a 15-3 victory.

In the Over-60s section of the Heart of England League, Alcester A hosted Yardley Wood Social in Division One, gaining a narrow seven shot win to help their fight against relegation. Each side had three winning cards.
