BOSS Darren Byfield says performance levels are key for his Redditch United side as they look to climb the Southern Premier League table.

The Reds bounced back from two defeats by beating Frome Town at the Valley Stadium last Saturday.

It was a result that pleased the manager, especially for the level of performance reached by his players. He now wants them to match that moving forwards so they can have no complaints should they fail to pick up maximum points each week.

He said: "I told the players before the Frome game that they have to make sure they come off the pitch knowing they have done all they can, regardless of the result.

"We have to make sure we play to a certain level each week. If we don't win then it has to be because off bad luck or a poor decision not because we weren't at our best. That is what I'm looking for from them.

"It was important we got back to winning ways but that we did it in good style."

United moved into tenth in the table with the convincing win over Frome, who were sitting in fifth place ahead of kick-off.

The Reds were on top from the start, hungry for their first win at the new-look Valley and took the game to the visitors from the off.

Danico Johnson had a good chance on 21 minutes when he latched onto a long ball as the Frome defence hesitated and headed the ball over goalkeeper Darren Chitty but it went just wide.

Johnson displayed power and pace throughout and gave Redditch the lead wo minutes before half time when Liam Spink put in a long cross from the right and the striker headed home well.

Frome equalised when Redditch lost the ball in midfield on 73 minutes, the ball reached Davies on the right and his cross was met first time by Jake Jackson to equalise.

Nathan Summers passed up the chance to regain the lead for his side on 78 minutes when seeing his penalty saved by Chitty after Aspostolis Aspostolopoulos was brought down in the box.

However, Redditch didn't have to wait long to secure all three points when from the resulting corner Duane Courtney rose at the far post to head home.

Byfield said: "It was a very pleasing win. We weren't at our free-flowing best like we were against Kettering, but as for shots at goal and playing through the thirds it was very good.

"I had told the fans and the chairman that we would put in a performance. I didn't say we would win but that we would put in a performance, and we did that.

"I did put some pressure on the players though and told them I expected them to win. They were superb and it shows what we are capable of.

"We are now settled on our style of play and just need to build on that."

United take on second-placed Dunstable Town at home tonight before travelling to Biggleswade Town this Saturday.

Byfield confirmed he is still on the look out for new players to offer more competition heading into the busy months ahead.
