Nine alive for Kings

Kings Norton 60, Keresley 5

KINGS Norton brushed aside mid-table rivals Keresely with a stunning nine-try victory in Midlands Three West (South).

The two-week lay off from action did not seem to have affected Kings, as they raced into a 29-point lead after 28 minutes of scintillating rugby against a shell-shocked Kerseley.

Kings opened the scoring after just five minutes when the ball was won on the halfway line and Tom Hatfield set off on a powerful run but he was held up short.

However, he managed to feed the supporting Rob Neighbour to touch down. Ken Whitehouse slotted the conversion.

Yassin Ayachi broke at centre and gave a scoring pass to the supporting Gareth Johnson. Whitehouse added the extras.

With Simon Williams at the fore for Kings and, after a short spell of repelled attacks, the Ash Lane forwards did the damage with a powerful catch-and-drive that saw Kris Fenn score. Whitehouse converted.

The hosts secured the bonus point when a Louis Stelling counter-attack allowed scrum-half Jack Fairhurst to race in under the posts. Whitehouse added the extras for the fourth time.

The Kings kicker then slotted an easy penalty after a Kerseley forward had killed the ball.

Head coach Ian Jackson had concerns his side would now go off the boil after the break but Kings maintained their pressure with Hatfield running in for another touch down.

Veteran Mark Waudby, Whitehouse, Ayachi and Johnson then combined to set-up Hatfield for a stylish try and Whitehouse again added the gloss for a , which was kicked over by the accurate boot of Whitehouse as Norton made it 38-0.

The hosts relaxed briefly and their stunned opponents pulled a score back but the Hopwood-based outfit ended the game in style as Fairhurst, Ben Boyce and Stelling completed the rout with more tries and seal Norton’s biggest win for a number of years.

Kings travel to Evesham on Saturday in a rearranged league game (2.15pm kick-off).
