Rush are washed away by Shipston

6:00pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Shipston 22, Woodrush 5

WOODRUSH went down to second- placed at Shipston in the Midlands Three West (South).

The visitors were forced to play up the slope and into the driving rain in the first-half and found themselves 17-0 at the break.

The rain abated in the secondhalf which helped the Rams and they scored their fourth try early on against the run of play.

But the remainder of the match was dominated by Woodrush, however, they only had Titch Thomas’ try to show for their efforts.

Prop Gary McGrann and centre Dan Ashburn, visiting for a short break from his home in Thailand, were brought on and made a real difference to the Woodrush attacks.

But Shipston defended their lines resolutely and held on for a well-deserved victory and seem set to secure the runnersup spot and with it promotion.

Woodrush entertain Keresley at home in the league on Saturday (2.15pm kick-off) in a rearranged league clash.
